Nightlife
Akureyri, often referred to as the "Capital of the North," offers a vibrant nightlife scene that caters to a variety of tastes. While it may not be as bustling as Reykjavik, there are plenty of options to enjoy an evening out. Here are some highlights
Græni Hatturinn
Græni Hatturinn, also known as the Green Hat, is a well-known venue in Akureyri, Iceland, famous for its lively atmosphere and vibrant music scene.
Græni Hatturinn is primarily recognized as a music venue, hosting a variety of performances from local and international artists. It features genres ranging from rock and pop to folk and jazz, making it a hub for music lovers.
Götubarinn
Götubarinn has been located in the historic building "Paris" at Hafnarstræti 96 since its founding in 2009. The building was constructed in 1913 by the merchant Sigvaldi Jóhannesson, who operated a shop there.
Götubarinn captures the history of Akureyri exceptionally well with its appearance, as it was designed by Sigmundur Einarsson and Hólmsteinn Snædal.
The piano bar is a nickname that has been associated with Götubarinn, and not without reason, as the bar features two grand pianos, which often accompany group singing by guests on weekends.
